So – How Resilient Are You?

I got quite a surprise when I woke up Monday morning and looked out the window – it was snowing, and quite heavily at that!

Now since we’ve had some reasonably warm weather this spring the trees were definitely leafing out and the flowers were in bloom, so I knew that the heavy wet snow was going to take it’s toll on them.  As you can see by the picture the daffodils were trying to hold their heads up but it was obviously  a struggle. In fact everywhere I looked I could see signs of plants under extreme stress from the unexpected snowfall.

A check on some of my other plants showed they

were facing similar challenges.  My rhubarb was almost completely buried under a thick coat of heavy snow and the branches of my lilac tree were weighted down with the heavy snow clinging to them.  Needless to say I was worried about their survival, although I knew it was unlikely I was facing the same kind of damage that a fruit-tree farmer would be facing, depending on how advanced his trees were in their spring growth cycle.

Fortunately most of the snow melted away the same day and I was quite happy the next day to see that, initially at least, the damage appeared to be minimal – except for the tree branch my apple tree lost!  It really is amazing how resilient plants are, especially if they are flexible and able to bend instead of breaking.

Even the daffodils are making a comeback,      although still looking a little bedraggled.  And except for the tiger lilies, which are in a very exposed area, and the apple tree branch, I think most of the plants will recover.

But it did get me thinking.

People are also often faced with unexpected  challenges that threaten their ability to THRIVE.  How prepared are they to recover and move on?

Have you ever given much thought to your ability to bounce back from adversity?  Do you have the same resiliency shown by the plant kingdom to come through trying times and bounce back?  Are you prepared to deal with setbacks and disappointments?  Anybody can carry on in good times, however the true test of your personal strength and resiliency will only show up when you are faced with adversity.  And the time to prepare is before the sh**t hits the fan so to speak.

There are 7 areas that I’ve found to be very important in strengthening my own ability to THRIVE  in-spite of some very significant set-backs and which I recommend that you should also considering as you develop your own personal THRIVE-ABILITY strategy.  Some of the things that you need to look at include your relationships both with yourself and with others.  Are you confident in your own abilities – have you ever taken stock of your strengths so you know what you can call on in times of adversity?  Are you taking  are of your health and taking action to reduce the impact that stress can take on you?  What about your finances – do you know where you stand if you should lose your job or interest rates should rise?

These are just some of the areas that need to be addressed as you develop your own personal  strategies to THRIVE.  To help you get started check out my Free Thrive-Ability Starter Kit.  It’ll help you begin moving towards a more THRIVING lifestyle and in doing so increase your resiliency and your ability to face whatever comes your way and bounce back stronger than ever.

So till the next time… :-)
